Good Bones Star Mina Starsiak Hawk Gives Insight Into One Of The Riskiest Bathroom Trends

If you're planning on selling your home soon, you should avoid adding any risky design choices or trendy elements, as these could negatively affect your resale value. This is especially true in the bathroom, as most potential buyers will scrutinize this room (along with the kitchen) the most.

However, if you're planning on living in your home for a long time, you may want to be a bit more daring and create a personalized space. In her spinoff show "Good Bones: Risky Business," Mina Starsiak Hawk took one of these risks. She could do this because she wasn't designing a home at all; instead, she was creating a special event venue named Charlotte Hall, now available for rent on Airbnb. Because she was designing an event hall and not a home, she was able to add one trendy bathroom feature inspired by a hotel in Las Vegas, which added quite a wow factor to the space.

An unexpected place for a bathtub

Instead of installing the bathtub inside a bathroom, Mina Starsiak Hawk placed it in the corner of a living space inside the second-floor suite. She got the idea from staying in a luxurious hotel in Las Vegas that had a tub in the bedroom. When explaining her inspiration, she said, "I thought it was so cool, so I feel like this would be the opportune time to do a bathtub in the living space, you know, make it a little sexy, give it a little somethin' somethin'. I want people to come in and be like 'Oh, my gosh, there's a tub in the middle of the room!' Everyone is going to tell their friends, their friends will want to go there, it's going to be like the cool place," per Realtor.com.

As you can see in the above image, this tub is not very private — it's placed in front of windows and is open to the rest of the living area. However, because this is an event hall, Hawk probably didn't intend for it to actually be used for bathing. Instead, it adds an unexpected element that could also be a great opportunity for a romantic photo shoot.

A less risky but still bold choice

Those who want to have a bit of fun with their bathroom design could place their tub in another unique location, which Mina Starsiak Hawk also does in Charlotte Hall. As seen in the picture above, she placed the freestanding tub behind the walk-in shower. This location, along with the floor-to-ceiling curtains on the window, created an extra glamorous look that really made the room stand out.

Because the tub is installed inside the bathroom, this is a less risky choice that still provides a bit of magnificence. In an episode of "Good Bones" (via YouTube), when giving advice on how to design a bathroom to sell, Hawk said, "If you have the room, use it. At [one] house, we did a freestanding tub under this window with a huge light fixture and a walk-in shower. We can't always do that, but if you can, do it. Because it's just... it's like oh, we're just so luxurious, here's your spa bathroom." If you're looking to sell your home and have the extra floor space, adding this element could make your home stand out to potential buyers who love a luxe feel.
