4 Hacks For Making Your Ceilings Appear Higher
By V BAWA
When your ceiling makes you feel boxed in with no overhead space, you could remodel your house to get rid of the crown molding or remove your ceiling altogether and embrace your raw roof. However, you don’t have to completely remodel your house to create the illusion that your ceilings are higher.
Make The Walls Match
Seeing the same color or pattern from the ceiling to the floor without baseboards or trims interfering makes your ceiling seem higher. Use cool-toned paint or wallpaper with vertical designs like thin stripes or chevron to encourage this tall feel.
Avoid Ceiling Lights
Lights on walls, floors, and tables spread lighting around a room, bouncing it off the ceiling without taking up too much space. If you have to have lights on your ceiling, try recessed or clear lights that won’t take up space or command too much visual attention.
Use Low Furniture
Low furniture has its roots in China and Japan and gives you an open, unobstructed view of your space that makes your room appear taller. These pieces are also usually more compact and save space in general, too.
Hang Tall Mirrors
Mirrors help you highlight certain parts of your house while making it feel bigger and brighter. Avoid hanging your mirrors too high as it creates a disconnection in your space, and consider mirrors that extend to the ceiling or cover a whole wall.
