Add Entryway Storage To Your Home With A Rustic Wood Pallet DIY
By NICK POLISHCHUK
If you’re not looking to spend a lot of money on run-of-the-mill entryway storage, you’re in luck: This rustic DIY rack uses just an old pallet to store all your bits and bobs.
First, apply a wood stain to your wooden pallet or blacken it with a blow torch to achieve a “rustic” look. Follow up the stain with conditioner and sealant to preserve the color.
Determine what dimensions you want the rack to be, and cut your pallet to size if needed. If the pallet features blocks, they must be removed so the unit can fit against the wall.
Cut widthwise to the outside edges of the support boards so the deck stays fastened even without the blocks. If your pallet features stringers, detach the deck boards altogether.
Then, connect the deck boards using three perpendicular strapping boards. Next, cut right-angled triangles to use as supports for top shelf storage of non-hanging items.
Screw on coat hooks, which can be purchased from most home improvement stores, before attaching the unit to the wall. Use a stud finder to avoid making unnecessary holes.
