Add This Small Flower To Your Garden To Attract More Hummingbirds
By LIBBY THOMPSON
You don't always need large, showy flowers to lure hummingbirds to your yard. Consider planting a variety of dainty verbena that your local hummingbirds will love.
Verbena is easy to grow from seed as an annual flower, and it grows best in full sun, measuring 6 to 14 inches tall. In some climates, seeds from the previous year will self-sow.
You can also start your verbena seeds indoors and transplant them outside once the threat of frost has passed. Then, enjoy their blooms all the way from late spring to fall.
Hummingbirds get a stable food source for many months due to verbenas’ long blooming period. Plus, the flowers’ bright colors and lemon-like scent helps these birds locate them.
