Affordable Patio Materials That Won't Sacrifice On Style
By BARBARA PAVONE
While building a patio may cost up to $3,910 on average, you don't always need to break the bank. You can create a stunning patio for under $800 using affordable materials.
Gravel tops the list as the cheapest option available for designing a patio. It's quick, easy to install, well-draining, and prettily rustic, resulting in a beautiful patio.
A 10-by-10-foot patio, for example, calls for about 21 cubic feet of pea gravel, costing just over $230 at Lowe's. It's even more of a bargain if you do the installation yourself.
Poured concrete is the second most affordable option, with its basic design starting at around $5 per square foot and going up to about $15. It's also quick to install.
Next up is flagstone, costing $15 to $27 per square foot. These slabs come in limited colors but can be cut into any shape and are durable and easily washable with soapy water.
Finally, paving stones cost $20 to $50 per square foot with installation but can be worth the investment. Pavers are durable, resistant to temperature changes, and easy to clean.
