Alison Victoria Reveals Which Room Is A Waste Of Space In A House These Days
By LUCY CLARK
Alison Victoria, host of HGTV's "Windy City Rehab," knows how to renovate residences in a way that is practical and beautiful, and avoid needless design aspects. While there’s a lot of wiggle room in how you decide to create and lay out your house, according to Victoria, there is one room that’s unnecessary.
Victoria says that a formal dining room is a waste of space since not only are they pointless for small families, but they’re falling out of favor amongst homeowners in general. People who are very social may enjoy a dining room, but others may prefer to use the space as a home office, gym, extra kitchen, or living room.
Instead, Victoria recommends adding an eat-in component to the kitchen with banquette-style bench seating, which can then be used for quiet family meals and for entertaining guests without a formal dining room. You could also use the space for a home bar, a kids’ playroom, a craft room, or a home theater.
