Attract Bees & Other Pollinators With This Plastic Nursery Pot DIY
By William Cennamo
Empty plastic nursery pots can easily be repurposed into an eco-friendly home for pollinators like bees and ladybugs with just a little creativity and a few materials.
You'll only need a few basic supplies: clean plastic nursery pots, natural materials like bamboo sticks or pinecones, a small drill for ventilation holes, and twine or zip ties.
Prepare your plastic pots by adding holes to the sides to help with drainage. Next, cut up bamboo and sticks or create layers using pinecones, wood scraps, and rolled up cardboard.
Various textures and holes will attract different species. Smaller pots filled with hollow stems will attract bees, while larger pots packed with dead wood attract beetles.
Once prepped, assemble your hotel by tightly packing materials into each pot and filling any holes with leaf litter. Hang the pot in a sheltered spot facing the morning sun.
