Making These 6 Mistakes
When Painting Concrete Floors
By REBECCA WOLKEN
Not Preparing
Preparing the surface properly is not a step you want to skip, especially since concrete floors are often where oil drips and dirt gets packed into the surface.
Vacuum the surface thoroughly, then clean it with a degreasing paint to ensure everything is stripped off. Rinse the floor with clean water and vacuum it
again when it’s dry.
Not Planning
Do not neglect the temperature in which you’re painting. Temperature can affect how the liquid dries and cures, and if it’s too cold or too hot, it won’t dry properly.
Latex paint dries best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If the floor is outside, wait until the weather changes, and if it’s inside, set it to the aforenamed temperatures.
Wrong Or Cheap Paint
If you use cheap paint, you risk the pigment’s durability and longevity. You also won’t get a professional finish, and the completed project will be a letdown.
Ensure that you’re purchasing paint that is made specifically for concrete. Acrylic latex concrete paint and epoxy concrete paint are the best options to go for.
