A method posted by Instagrammer @DailyOriginalVids to waterproof the plug and receptacle of an indoor cord and an outdoor extension cord is dangerous and should never be attempted.
The hack involves cutting aligned grooves into two opposite sides of a reusable food storage container, placing the cords’ connectors into the container, and closing the lid.
However, a food storage container with holes made in the sides is no longer airtight and won’t prevent water (including condensation) from reaching the connectors inside.
Exposing an indoor-rated cord to water can cause an electrical short, which can result in overheating, melting, or a fire, and you can be shocked or electrocuted if you touch it.
