Avoid This Mistake At All Costs When Starting Seeds
By DANIELLE RAMOS-SULLIVAN
Starting seeds can be an incredibly rewarding endeavor for gardeners, but a crucial mistake to avoid is not keeping the seeds warm enough for germination and early growth.
The ideal temperature range for most seeds to germinate is between 68 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Maintaining this environment is critical for the success of your seedlings.
To accurately measure the temperature, insert a soil thermometer 1 to 2 inches into the ground. Allow the reading to stabilize, then record it along with the current time and date.
For an accurate average, take temperature readings in multiple spots and at different times of the day. However, steer clear of direct sunlight, as it may impact the outcome.
