Banish Mold From Your Home With An Ingredient You Already Own
By WILL FORD
Mold in the home can be both a nuisance and a serious health hazard. Luckily, an effective, non-toxic, and eco-friendly solution is probably already in your pantry: baking soda.
Start by mixing equal parts of baking soda and water in a small bowl. Add a splash of vinegar to boost its mold-fighting power, but be prepared for the paste to foam and bubble.
Use a brush, sponge, or cloth to apply this paste directly to moldy areas in your home. Consider dampening the moldy spot with water to ensure the paste adheres well.
Allow the paste to sit for at least 10 minutes or several hours in the case of deeper infestations. Scrub off the residue with a damp cloth or sponge, then rinse and dry the area.
Repeat the process using an abrasive scrubbing tool if you have stubborn stains. It's also wise to wear protective gear like gloves and a mask during this process.
Before you start, it's crucial to test the baking soda on a small, hidden area as it may bleach some materials. In case of severe infestations, it's best to consult a professional.
