Banish Stubborn Coffee Mug Stains With This Kitchen Staple
By SANDY BAKER
Sometimes, running your favorite mug through the dishwasher won't remove the ring of discoloration coffee can leave behind. In those cases, use baking soda to help scrub it clean.
Baking soda's cleaning ability comes from its natural chemical and physical properties. It's a safe and highly effective cleaning agent that can loosen the coffee stain.
Add it directly on the surface of a dish towel or sponge without diluting it, using the abrasive white powder to help scrub away the stain without damaging the mug's surface.
Baking soda helps neutralize odors from a cup that has sat in the sink for some time. It won't disinfect it, so you must still clean it with soap and water afterward.
Another option is to sprinkle baking soda into the stained mug before adding enough hot water to fill it. Once the water has cooled, use a cloth to wipe away the stain.
Make a thick paste for stubborn stains by adding a small amount of water to a couple of tablespoons of baking soda. Let it sit inside the mug for an hour or so before rinsing.
