Bargain Block’s Keith Bynum Can’t Stand This Exterior Home Feature
By KIRSTIE BINGHAM
“Bargain Block” is known for renovating houses in Detroit on a budget. In a recent episode, “Farmhouse and Schoolhouse,” Keith Bynum points out how he hates metal window awnings.
Bynum and partner Evan Thomas want to make the most cost-efficient changes to homes, which, in this episode, involved removing an awning that covered almost half a window.
In the show, Bynum says, “As with most of the homes in this neighborhood, there are big aluminum awnings on them. They block out all the light, and you can't see out your windows.”
Aluminum awnings were popular in the 1950s because they protected windows from rain, hail, and other elements, but they were quite large and often blocked out sunlight.
