Breegan Jane's Top Tips For Designing The Perfect Accent Wall
By KELLY WELTON
HGTV fans of Breegan Jane have seen her experiment with bold colors and patterns on “The House My Wedding Bought” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” In a tour of Jane’s own home, we saw a mix of luxurious textures, high-contrast blacks and whites, and accent walls which are an easy, inexpensive technique to impact a space.
Jane believes an accent wall should be cheerful and comfortable, and most importantly, it should tell a story, conveying the desires of the people who live in it. Consider the room’s size, shape, and function, and any loudness created by an accent wall should be offset using light and neutral décor so the room feels balanced.
Elements within each design should be both glamorous and functional, so when using textures or patterns, use décor, artwork, and furniture to contrast the accent wall. For example, when designing a jewelry store, Jane used an intricate wallpaper with peacocks and butterflies and then continued the theme with brass lighting fixtures, glass display cases, and mirrors.
