Clean Your Countertops With These DIY Natural Cleaning Solutions
By RHIANNON FAITH IRELAND
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel countertops can be easily cleaned by wiping down regularly. You can use soap, or mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
Next, mist the countertop's surface and wipe it away with a clean cloth. Go in again with another clean, dry cloth to get rid of
any lingering residue.
Butcher Block
To clean a butcher block countertop, use dish soap and water. For tougher stains, apply salt to the entire countertop, then use half a lemon to scrub the mark.
Let the lemon juice work its magic for at least three minutes, then take a clean microfiber cloth, wet it a little, and wipe it clean. Use another microfiber cloth to wipe it dry.
Granite
Deal with stains on granite surfaces immediately and avoid acidic cleaners like lemon or vinegar. Instead, use a 1:1 ratio of water and rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle.
You can also mix baking soda and water in equal parts, then apply the paste to the mark on your countertop with a sponge. For harsher stains, let the paste sit for a few hours.
Marble
Marble is prone to damage from acidic cleaners like vinegar, so use a pH-neutral soap and warm water to clean marble countertops. For harsh, oily stains, go
for hydrogen peroxide.
Cover the stains with a clean cloth, spray the peroxide over paper towels, and lay them over the stains. Cover them with plastic wrap until completely dry, then clean as usual.
Tile
Clean tiles and grouts weekly to prevent mold and bacteria buildup. To clean tiles, use a mix of white vinegar, baking soda, water, and natural liquid soap as a DIY cleaner.
To clean the grout, mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle
and mist the surface. For tougher grout areas, scrub with a mix of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
