Clean Your Plastic Furniture With This Handy Kitchen Ingredient
By JOANNA MARIE
White vinegar is a gentle yet effective way to clean plastic furniture, excelling at dissolving tough grime while also preserving the furniture's appearance and longevity.
To address mildew stains, mix ¾ cup of distilled white vinegar with ¼ cup of water. Spray this mixture onto the affected areas, and give it about 10 minutes to work
its magic.
For more persistent stains, a direct approach is best. Soak a cloth or sponge in distilled vinegar, and apply it to the stains for effective removal.
When it comes to colored plastic furniture, a milder solution is advisable. Mix ¼ gallon of warm water with ¼ cup of vinegar, and gently apply it to stains using a rag.
In cases of discoloration and white streaks after you’ve applied vinegar, sprinkle baking soda onto a damp sponge, and gently scrub the affected area for a thorough cleaning.
A few precautions are important when using vinegar. It's wise to perform a spot test on a hidden area of the furniture first, to ensure the vinegar doesn't damage the plastic.
Also, avoid mixing vinegar with bleach or other harsh cleaners, as they can be too strong for plastic, potentially causing wear and loss of shine over time.
Finally, to keep your plastic furniture in prime condition, give it a thorough cleaning at the start of the outdoor season, and a good vinegar wash before storing it away.
