Combat Ticks & Fleas With The Help Of This Essential Oil
By LINDSAY DONALDSON
Fleas and ticks can cause serious health issues for you and your pets. Instead of toxic bug spray, use sweet-smelling lemongrass essential oil to eradicate them from your home.
Research shows that when applied often enough, lemongrass oil can deter ticks, fleas, and other pests almost as well as DEET but without risk to you, your pets, or the environment.
However, concentrated essential oil can irritate the skin, and PetMD warns not to apply undiluted essential oils directly on your pets, as some dogs have adverse reactions to them.
Start with small, well-diluted amounts and monitor your pets for side-effects. Use a few drops of undiluted lemongrass oil only on clothing or pet collars that don’t touch skin.
You can also purchase wearable diffusers that you can use full-strength oil in without irritation. There are also pet-friendly diffusers that you can clip onto your pets’ collars.
