Common Trees You Can Grow In Your Yard & How Long It Will Take

Oak
Most species take between 20 and 50 years to reach maturity and grow 1 to 2 feet per year. If you don’t want to wait, try a faster growing variety such as nuttall or willow oak.
Elm
Although similar to oak, elm trees are more vibrant. While they usually grow 1 to 2 feet per year and mature after 150 years, the American elm puts on 3 to 5 feet per year.
Magnolia
Magnolia’s saucer-like blooms and impressive foliage make it great for landscaping. Its growth rate varies per species with some growing as little as 6 inches per year.
American Sycamore
These huge, fast-growing trees are perfect for areas that need shade. Ensure you have plenty of space since they continue to grow throughout their long lifespan.
Eastern Redbud
This popular, brightly colored tree can reach a maximum height of 30 feet, growing 1 ½ feet per year. Depending on the chosen variety, it can live up to 50 years.
