Create A DIY Fringed Headboard With Bargain Block's 2x4 Wood Hack
By CLARA MUCCI
Keith Bynum, co-host of HGTV's "Bargain Block," came up with a playful, tropical-inspired idea for a low-cost wooden fringed headboard, which was featured in
Season 1, Episode 2.
To make one yourself, you'll need a large enough workspace and some basic carpentry skills, as well as screws, an electric screwdriver, wood stain or paint, and 2-by-4 wood boards.
First, make the headboard frame using the 2-by-4 boards to construct a rectangle the size of your desired dimensions, then trim the two sides so they taper toward the bottom.
Next, attach horizontal planks across the inside of your frame, spaced evenly and a little shorter than your fringe length. Attach as many planks as you want rows of fringe.
Use wider planks the higher you go so each row of wood overlaps the one below it. Screw the headboard frame onto the wall above your bed, using a level to make sure it’s straight.
Add the fringe using planks ideally thin enough to create the feathered effect of a fringe. Screw each plank to the horizontal planks one at a time, starting from the bottom row.
Finally, finish your headboard with a wood stain, a primer and matte paint, chalk paint like Rust-Oleum that doesn’t need a primer, or Shabby Chic metallic paint for
a glam look.
