Made of quilted material with unique colorful prints, your oven mitts, together with other scrap fabric, can be repurposed to make your own DIY Christmas stockings.
Cut off the hand part of an old mitt to form a cylinder shape. Then, flatten and sew on extra material to create a bottom, and finish off the basket with some handles.
Cut an oblong shape out of a mitt a bit longer than your glasses, then fold it in half and sew two edges. Leave one side open or add a button or zipper to close it.
Oven mitts are heat-resistant, so you can make coasters out of them to rest your hot mugs on. Cut a mitt to any size or shape, and finish the edges with a seam or binding.
For a heat-resistant case for your curling iron, wand, or straightener, sew down the side of a mitt and cut off the excess to make a pouch — or just leave it as is.
