Deodorize Your Smelly Bathroom With This Handy Pantry Ingredient
By JACQUELINE DELIBES
Aside from regular cleaning rituals, odor reduction is one of the key requirements for any bathroom. Fortunately, you can do it in a simple, non-toxic way by using baking soda.
Simply leave a dish of baking soda on a shelf or behind the toilet so that it can combat bathroom odors, which usually come from the grime collecting in the toilet and the drains.
These odors are often acidic, while baking soda is alkaline. Therefore, the soda causes a reaction that shifts the pH level in the room, thereby absorbing and neutralizing odors.
Another great place to deodorize is your bathroom garbage can. As soon as you've emptied it, sprinkle some powder in the bottom of the can.
You can also place half a cup of the soda in a piece of fabric like a cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band to create a pouch. Then, tie it to the pipes under the sink.
Finally, check the dish and the pouch between one and three months, then toss the soda down both the sink and tub drains. Flush them with hot water, deodorizing the pipes.
