Deter Chipmunks From Your Yard With A Sweet-Smelling Flower
By KALEIGH BRILLON
Although cute, chipmunks are the source of many garden headaches. If you’re suffering from a chipmunk problem, try planting daffodils as a natural repellent for the furry critters.
Daffodils contain lycorine, a toxin known to cause nausea and vomiting. While there’s not much research to suggest chipmunks are aware of this, its bitter taste likely deters them.
Additionally, daffodils have oxalates in their sap and bulbs that can cause skin irritations. As such, chipmunks leave daffodil bulbs alone, even if they accidentally dig them up.
Since daffodils can also harm people and pets, you should plant them in areas without easy access. Consider interplanting them with garlic and onions, which also repel chipmunks.
