Ditch The Chemicals And Try These Methods To Get Rid Of A Hornets Nest
By JOANNA MARIE
To eliminate a hornet's nest from your property, you can buy a hornet trap, craft DIY traps using household materials, or use natural repellants like peppermint oil.
You can buy a hornet trap from a hardware store. It usually has a container and an attractant like sugary water to draw hornets in, lock them inside, and cause them to die.
Instead of buying a trap, you can also create a DIY trap. Grab a 2-liter plastic soda bottle, slice it in two, then combine and mix sugar, vinegar, and soap in the bottom section.
Invert the top portion of the bottle, setting it into the lower section to create a funnel-like shape. Place the DIY trap in problematic areas and watch the hornets disappear.
You can also use botanical oils, specifically peppermint, as hornets hate their aroma. Mix water, a few drops of peppermint oil, and dish soap in a spray bottle
and mist the areas.
A glass spray bottle is preferable because essential oils can break down plastic containers. Use this spray around areas where hornets congregate or build nests to deter them.
