Ditch The Curtains For Joanna Gaines' Must-Try Window Treatment Idea
By Candina Jordan
As Joana Gaines showed while working on an interior kitchen project on HGTV's "Fixer Upper," bifold wooden shutters can be nice architectural curtain alternatives for your windows.
To DIY your shutters, cut ¾ inch plywood to the needed width and height. Your window may not be perfectly square, so measure it in multiple places and use the smallest measurement.
Subtract your hinges' width and 1/16 inch from your window measurement and divide that number by four to get each panel's width. Then, measure your window’s height from the inside.
Whether you want full or half-height shutters, leave a 1/16-inch space at each end when measuring a window's height. Lastly, glue a ¼ inch plywood strip to each panel's perimeter.
