Do This If Your Thermostat Is Telling You
To 'Wait'
By JANELLE WARD
When your thermostat displays a “wait” message, the first thing you should do is wait for a few minutes, allowing the pressure in the HVAC system's compressor to rebalance.
If the message persists after five minutes, troubleshooting is advisable. Begin by power cycling or resetting the thermostat according to your manufacturer's guidelines.
Should these steps fail, the issue may reside within the HVAC system itself, possibly requiring professional repairs for problems like refrigerant leaks or faulty components.
Refrain from manually forcing the system to start because this could worsen the issue and lead to expensive repairs, such as replacing the compressor, which may cost up to $3,000.
