Don't Forget This Crucial Step When Managing Your Container Garden
By SANDY BAKER
Whether it is a brand-new container or one stored in your shed, it is crucial to clean and disinfect it before you transfer a plant into it.
This is due to the presence of microorganisms, including fungi, bacteria, and viruses, that can linger on the surfaces of the pot and adversely affect your plants.
To sanitize your pot, immerse it in a solution of equal parts warm water
and white vinegar for 10-15 minutes. This will effectively kill most pathogens without harming the plant.
While this method works for most types of containers — plastic, ceramic, and other harder materials — it is best to use warm, soapy water to disinfect wood containers.
