Don't Skip These Steps When Cleaning Your Water Dispenser
By EZEKIEL MAINA
In under a half hour, you can deep clean your refrigerator water dispenser — all you’ll need is white vinegar. Doing this a few times a year helps to protect against contaminants.
To start, switch off the fridge's water supply valve tucked away under your kitchen sink or inside the fridge. Then, disconnect one end of the copper tubing leading to the tank.
With a funnel, pour vinegar into the tubing and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
Next, purge the system by pressing the dispenser button and letting the vinegar exit the system.
You’ll want to soak a soft cloth in vinegar to clean around the dispenser nozzle. Then, carefully scrub the inside of the nozzle with a soft brush, also soaked in vinegar.
Finally, reconnect your water line, turn on your refrigerator water supply, and run water through the dispenser until the vinegar odor fades.
You could also clean the
tray at the same time by pulling it out and cleaning it with a vinegar-drenched paper towel. Lastly, make sure to properly dry every cleaned part.
