Don't Use Oven Cleaner To Clean These Parts Of Your Appliance
By ROSE OKEKE
While using an oven cleaner is tempting, the strong chemicals used to fight grease can prove corrosive and damage the air-tight silicone seals or enamel on self-cleaning ovens.
For safe usage, take out the wire racks and baking trays and apply the cleaner on them in an open space. Allow it to sit for half an hour, then wipe and rinse them thoroughly.
As for the inside of the oven, aim the cleaner directly at the buildup, avoiding any sensitive areas. Leave it as is for a couple of hours before cleaning using gloves and a mask.
Alternatively, consider using baking soda to clean your oven by mixing ½ cup with 3 tablespoons of water. Smear the paste around the oven and let sit for 20 minutes.
Gently scrub with a toothbrush or sponge and then wipe it clean with a rag soaked in diluted vinegar. Doing so will help prolong your oven’s shelf life and prevent rusting.
