Drawbacks Of Installing Porcelain Countertops You Shouldn't Overlook
By SAKSHI KHAITAN
Despite porcelain countertops durability and resemblance to marble, their limited availability and slightly porous nature, making them susceptible to stains, are major drawbacks.
Installing porcelain is also costly, ranging from $1,500 to $3,800 for 35 square feet. The price will depend on your customization demands from the fabricator, too.
Unfortunately, these countertops are not DIY-friendly. The thin material usually comes in long slabs that can easily crack during cutting, leaving you to cover the cost.
Thin porcelain slabs also limit edge options, impacting the visual appeal since designs aren't seamlessly integrated throughout the material and might look odd from certain angles.
While durable, porcelain is vulnerable to cracks and chips from blunt objects, like ceramic knives and meat cleavers. Such repairs would require a professional and could be costly.
Porcelain countertops also don’t fall in the same luxury countertop category as granite, which could potentially hurt the resale value of your home.
