Easily Clean Pesky Carpet Stains With These DIY Cleaners
By RHIANNON FAITH IRELAND
White Vinegar
With just white vinegar, water, and soft cloths, you can make carpet spills vanish immediately. Start by mixing 1 or 2 cups of vinegar with 1 cup of water.
Next, dip a soft, clean cloth into the solution, apply it to the stained area, and let it sit for around 10 minutes. Finally, gather up any excess liquid using a paper towel.
Salt And Water
If you spill a drink or drop some food on a carpet, reach for salt and water and some paper towels. First, lay the towels on the stain to soak up the liquid.
Sprinkle salt, covering the stains entirely, and let it sit for about five minutes, then use a soft cloth and cold water to remove all the salt. Repeat the steps if needed.
Dish Detergent
If there's an unsightly mud stain on your carpet, let it dry out before trying to remove it. Once it dries, vacuum up as much of the mud or dirt as you can.
Next, combine around 1 teaspoon of dish detergent with 1 cup of warm water, and then apply it to the stain. Use a soft cloth to dab with the mixture until the stains are gone.
Baking Soda/Vinegar
The alkaline pH of baking soda and the acidic pH of vinegar combine to create a powerful yet safe gas that will remove carpet stains with ease.
Cover stains with baking soda and add 1 tablespoon or so of vinegar on top until you hear a fizzing sound. Scrub the mix gently, let it sit for several hours, then vacuum the area.
Club Soda
If you spill a glass of juice on your carpet, reach for club soda and some paper towels. Start by soaking up any excess liquid from the carpet using the paper towels.
Next, pour a small amount of club soda onto another cloth, and apply the cloth to the entire stained area. Keep dabbing until the stain is gone and repeat as many times as needed.
