Essential Tools Any Beginner DIY Woodworker Would Love To Have
By RON BAKER
Shara McCuiston of Woodshop Diaries and Nick Starrett created similar lists of tools for beginner woodworkers, which include these essential hand and power tools.
McCuiston and Starrett recommend three baseline necessities: a measuring tape, a hammer, and a speed square. Each tool is useful in many ways for woodworking.
House Digest has one more recommendation: a Japanese-style Dozuki “Z” saw. A traditional handsaw can be exhausting, so a good Dozuki is competent and easy to use.
Miter saws and table saws are irreplaceable in woodworking for their abilities to achieve different cuts. A drill and an 18-gauge brad nailer are also helpful for beginners.
