Fixer Upper Star Joanna Gaines Shares A Trick For A Fresh-Smelling Home
By AMANDA FINN
Before you reach for a chemical-filled air freshener like Febreeze, consider an alternative courtesy of HGTV’s Joanna Gaines for a fresh-smelling home — the trusty simmer pot.
"A simmer pot is essentially a stovetop potpourri," Gaines wrote on the Magnolia blog. "I love the ease of [using it] and letting it fill our house with clean scents all day long."
Gaines’ simmer pot recipe includes two sprigs of rosemary, a tablespoon of dried lavender, two or three lemon slices or peels, and a few drops of both lavender and rose oil.
After adding some water and allowing it to rise to a simmer on the stove, Gaines advises keeping the heat on low and checking the pot every half hour — never leave it unattended.
