Fixer Upper Warns Against This Awkward Front Door Mistake
By ALEXANDRIA TAYLOR
On an episode of HGTV’s “Fixer Upper,” featuring a classic farmhouse, hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines highlighted the importance of having a front door that isn’t off-center.
If a home’s front door doesn’t line up with the porch steps or the walkway to the house, it creates a design that feels off-putting and not well thought out.
The asymmetry of the exterior in an otherwise symmetrical house throws off the aesthetic and lowers the curb appeal of the home.
Humans are naturally drawn to symmetry, often because it’s familiar, expected, and orderly. An off-center door deviates from that and therefore feels wrong.
