Lighting can have a big impact on design, and the wrong choice can quickly date a room. HGTV star Jenny Marrs suggests exchanging older fixtures for sleek and modern ceiling fans.
In an episode of “Fixer to Fabulous,” a traditional chandelier clashed with the room design, so Marrs swapped it out with a black, narrow-bladed ceiling fan to modernize the space.
Modern design is characterized by clean lines, simple shapes, neutral colors, and natural materials, and modern lights tend to have metal finishes, mixed metals, or glass accents.
Keep your room size in mind when picking a ceiling fan, ensuring that the blade size is proportional to your space and that it is installed at least 7 feet off of the floor.
