Give An Old Pot A Refresh With This Easy IKEA Hack
By DARBY WAGLER
To DIY an expensive-looking decorative planter using inexpensive materials, all you need is the Rödeby armrest tray from IKEA, which costs about $20.
Simply wrap the tray around an old or cheap planter. It’s best to use a planter that fits the armrest tray perfectly around it, though it could be slightly larger or smaller.
If the armrest tray is too tall once wrapped around the planter, cut off the excess material. Attach it with E-6000 glue, a strong adhesive that you can get on Amazon for under $5.
Place the glue around the top rim of the planter and stick it on the armrest tray. Tightly wrap it with rope while it dries and fill in any gaps with scrap wood.
Paint the edges of the planter black to finish the piece, or personalize it to your tastes. For instance, you could use the bamboo-colored Rödeby IKEA armrest tray instead.
