Here's How To Weatherproof All Of Your Outdoor Furniture
By TIFFANY SELVEY
Plastic
Thanks to the non-porous nature of plastic, you can waterproof it simply by cleaning it with soap and water. It’s important to quickly remove stubborn stains and sticky residue with rubbing alcohol, vegetable oil, or dish soap, as it will be nearly impossible to extract if left over winter.
Metal
Maintenance is the key to longevity, so at the first sign of chipped paint or rust, sand down the area and touch up the spot with a color suitable for metal. Clean and store your metal furniture away from water during the winter to prevent future damage.

Wood
Wooden furniture must be sealed with spar urethane or outdoor furniture paint with a sealant to keep it weatherproof. Even pressure-sealed lumber should be sealed because, once water seeps in, the wood rots and is ruined.
Fabric
Many outdoor cushions are made with waterproof fabric, but applying a waterproof spray can help protect them from mold. Store your cushions indoors when not in use and consider buying furniture covers for all of your outdoor furniture.
