Here's How You Can Make Money Off An Old Water Heater
By VALERIE NEILL
Most water heaters in the U.S. are made from polyethylene, fiberglass, galvanized steel, or steel, and you can potentially sell your old one as scrap metal to make some money.
Scrap yards will weigh the unit and offer payment based on market prices, though the payout will likely be between $7 and $30 — not enough to cover the cost of a
new heater.
If you separate and sell valuable metal parts, such as copper, aluminum, or brass, you might be able to make more, especially if the parts are in good condition and
not rusty.
Local repair shops may also be interested in buying these parts. Keep in mind that some companies might charge a fee to handle hazardous materials, so it's wise to
call ahead.
