Here's What You Can Substitute For Dryer Sheets
If you're looking to avoid toxic chemicals and buy more sustainable products for your home, you may want to ditch the dryer sheets for good. We've found some dryer sheet alternatives that will keep your clothes fresh — while also eliminating waste, protecting your skin, and saving you some money.
One of the most popular dryer sheet alternatives is wool dryer balls, as they’re reusable and effective. They work by separating wet clothing to circulate air in your dryer, preventing static and making your clothes dry faster, and they usually cost around $10 and last over a year.
To add fragrance, place two to three drops of essential oil on the dryer balls and wait for them to dry before using. Plastic dryer balls are another alternative that work the same way as wool dryer balls, however, you won't be able to add any fragrance.
If you're looking for the softening effects of dryer sheets, add 1/4 cup of vinegar or a teaspoon of baking soda to the wash cycle. These natural fabric softeners can be used along with the dryer balls to get all the benefits of a dryer sheet.
