HGTV's Emily Henderson Raves About These Kitchen Island Features
By ALEXANDRIA TAYLOR
HGTV interior designer Emily Henderson swears by kitchen islands that feature durable materials, smart storage, sustainable materials, soft-close drawers, and plenty of room.
Due to their use in meal preparation, islands should be crafted from durable material like quartz or granite and make the most of their storage space with cabinets and drawers.
Using materials with a low environmental impact, such as recycled wood or a natural mineral like quartz, is a great way to make your home greener and have a longer-lasting counter.
Henderson loves soft-close drawers because they create a quieter environment, prevent small fingers from getting jammed in a closing drawer, and protect the cabinetry from damage.
If you plan to use the island for dining, make sure there are enough seats for the whole family. If it’s functioning as an informal gathering space, feel free to use fewer chairs.
