HGTV's Hilary Farr Stays Far Away From This Window Trend
By ALEXANDRIA TAYLOR
Interior designer and HGTV host Hilary Farr has voiced her disapproval of a particular window treatment trend: the practice of mounting curtain rods directly onto the window trim.
Farr explained to HGTV Magazine, "That's bad for aesthetics and practical function." Installing curtain rods on the trim can make windows appear smaller and block beautiful views.
Additionally, it impedes natural light, making rooms feel more cramped and less inviting. The curtain's weight could also damage the trim if the mounting hardware were to tear out.
Farr's preference leans toward installing curtain rods from the wall. She recommends positioning them at least 4 inches above the window to avoid any issues.
