HGTV's Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent On What A Home's Main Floor Needs
By DARBY WAGLER
In a Season 2 episode of HGTV’s “The Nate and Jeremiah Home Project” titled “Fresh Start,” Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent help a New York family with two teenage daughters make their home more functional. The duo soon reveal their two main reasons as to why they believe that every home should include a full bathroom on the main floor.
The first reason is that it could be inconvenient for guests visiting your home to climb the stairs just to use the restroom. Secondly, adding a bath with a standing shower to the main floor allows two people to use different bathrooms at the same time, which will improve the quality of life.
If you are worried about not having adequate space, you can put a bathroom under a staircase (as Berkus and Brent did) or convert a downstairs laundry room, as you'll already have plumbing installed. Be sure the bathroom is far enough away from the kitchen and the dining room to ensure privacy and keep unwanted smells away from eating areas.
