Hide Your Unsightly Attic Door String With This Clever Hook Trick
By MEREDITH EASTWOOD
Unsightly attic door strings bother many homeowners, but there's a simple solution: a pull-down system. It's a budget-friendly upgrade, perfect for attic renovations.
Replacing the traditional string with a pull-down system adds beauty and functionality to your home. Whether bought or DIYed, it's an easy project requiring minimal skills.
Installing a pull-down system, like Attic Ease, involves a few simple steps. All you have to do is cut the old cord and mount the pull-ring where the string was attached.
If you’d rather DIY, just remove the string and secure an eye bolt in its place with a nut. Then, drill a hole to screw the hook into the end of your preferred length of dowel.
Use a silicone-based lubricant on the door hinges and springs of the attic ladder. This, combined with regular maintenance and inspections, will extend your system’s lifespan.
