Hilary Farr's Top Painting Tips To Sell A Home Quickly & Easily
By KELLY CATLIN
If you're planning to sell your house, HGTV design expert Hilary Farr emphasizes that the color you paint your home is one of the most impactful elements in attracting buyers.
Speaking to The Detroit News, the “Love It or List It” star advised against using strong colors “unless that's what you like to live with because it is very, very defining.”
“I tend to use a neutral on the walls if I'm designing an entire house from scratch [and] I always paint the ceiling the same color as the walls,” she explained to Homes & Gardens.
Farr prefers using neutrals because they make it easier for prospective homebuyers to envision themselves living in your house. They also won't clash with different furniture.
Some of her favorites are earthy tones — colors that are typically found in nature. These shades are extremely versatile and effortlessly complement a variety of décor styles.
“Paint is a quick and easy way to create a mood and character,” Farr noted. Neutral paint colors express a relaxed home, and there are plenty of beautiful shades to choose from.
In an HGTV interview, Farr recommended Contemplation 700E-3 by Behr, a serene gray she uses often: “You'll start to feel the calm envelop you the minute it touches your walls.”
