Keeping your loppers sharp ensures clean cuts, reduces the risk of damaging plants, and prevents rust. It's a simple process and takes less than 10 minutes when done regularly.
While you can sharpen the blades without disassembling the loppers, taking them apart gives you better access to all the components. Remember to wear gloves and goggles for safety.
Start by cleaning the blades with soapy water or a scouring pad to remove dirt or sap. Next, use a coarse, damp file to sharpen the blade, following its natural angle and shape.
Repeat with a fine grit file and gently run it over the back of the blade to remove any burrs. Finish by applying a silicone-based lubricant to the loppers to prevent rust.
