How Expensive Will It Be To Install And Operate A Wood Stove?
By KELLY CATLIN
As homeowners seek sustainable and cost-effective heating solutions, wood stoves stand out as popular choices due to their eco-friendliness and potential for reducing energy costs.
Wood stoves range in price from about $1,200 for basic models to $7,000 for luxury versions. These figures don't include labor costs, which typically run between $250 and $800.
The installation cost of a wood stove can range from $1,500 to $5,000, depending on the model and hearth options. However, tax credits may offset up to 30% of these expenses.
The cost of wood fuel can fluctuate depending on the season and availability. Generally, a cord of seasoned firewood costs $400 and half a cord $280, plus potential delivery fees.
The frequency of use and efficiency of the stove also impact the operating expenses. Fortunately, newer and more efficient models can significantly lower these costs.
