How Fishing Line Can Keep Ants Out Of Your Hummingbird Feeder
By MARCO ROSSI
If you're frustrated by ants marching down your feeder, take down the feeder, remove the feeder's original rope, and replace it with a fishing line before hanging it back.
Most feeders use thick ropes to hang off poles and trees, which ants can easily walk up and down on. Relatively, a fishing line is thinner — mostly .005 to .010 inches in diameter.
Additionally, fishing lines
are slippery, so there isn't enough grip for ants to walk down to the feeder. A few ants may try to reach the food, but they'll soon give up.
