How To Pick The Best Spot In Your Garden To Plant Peonies
By ALEXANDRIA TAYLOR
Peonies can grow in nearly any USDA Zone, including Zone 3 (the northern tips of the US and southern parts of Alaska), as long as they’re planted in the right spot.
Since peonies don't transplant well, it becomes even more crucial to select the right location from the outset.
Ideally, this spot should receive six to eight hours of sunlight daily for optimal growth. They can tolerate slightly shady conditions, but this may result in fewer blooms.
To prevent competition for resources such as food, water, and light, peonies should be planted separately from other plants.
The ideal location is one that is sheltered from harsh winds, potentially by a fence or exterior wall, and has fertile, well-draining soil with a neutral pH.
