How To Protect Your Bird Feeder During A Heavy Rain Storm
By KATIE FRANCIS
Unpredictable weather, such as heavy rainstorms, can destroy a bird feeder. Fortunately, there are ways you can ensure your feeder withstands the elements and remains intact.
One method is to attach an umbrella-like rain guard or baffle, which prevents rainwater from reaching seeds and other nutrients in the feeder, resulting in a lesser chance of mold.
To protect a hanging bird feeder in strong winds, replace the provided hook with a sharply curved one. This ensures that, even if it does sway, the feeder won't fall off the hook.
Lastly, monitor the weather forecast when using your bird feeder. Anticipating large storms or windy days allows you ample time to bring the feeder inside before potential damage.
