How To Tidy Up Open-Faced IKEA Storage With A Sliding Door
By SASKIA AINSWORTH
If your IKEA storage unit is packed to the brim and looking a bit untidy, you can easily install a sliding door to conceal its contents using this hack by @riel.design on TikTok.
For this budget-friendly project, you’ll need a 10-foot J trim piece from Home Depot, some construction adhesive, a saw, a strip of felt, and a 1/8-inch piece of plywood.
You can adjust this hack to create a sliding door for virtually any open-storage unit you have, including an IKEA Kallax, Besta, Havsta, Billy, or even non-IKEA open-faced storage.
Select the correct size plywood and J trim for the width of your storage unit. Saw the J trim in two so you have a top and bottom track, and attach them with the construction glue.
Next, cut your felt into strips and glue them to the top and bottom of the plywood door as cushioning. Let the glue dry for 24 hours before sliding the door onto the tracks.
