How To Use Baking Soda To Soften Your Scratchy Bed Sheets
By ALEXANDRA RODRIGUEZ
Sleeping on scratchy bed sheets can ruin your well-deserved night’s rest; luckily, you can soften these stiff bed linen by washing them with baking soda.
The detergent used to clean bed sheets can leave residue after every wash, but baking soda breaks down these remnants
and softens your sheets.
Add one cup of baking soda to the washing machine with warm or hot water and place your bed sheets inside. Allow the wash to run until it gets to its first rinse cycle.
Change the water temperature to cold and add the vinegar before the cycle starts. Separately adding
the baking soda and vinegar prevents the two from mixing and forming bubbles.
Once your wash is finished, put them in the dryer on the lowest setting. This method can restore the softness to higher thread count sheets or soften lower thread count sheets.
For the best results, rewash your sheets with detergent and fabric softener after using this method — ensure the bed linen is fully dry before the second wash.
